Lake Bluff 65 Community Bulletin

June 2025

Message from Dr. Leali

Dear Lake Bluff Community,

As the school year ends, I want to say thank you. Thank you for the trust, partnership, and positivity you’ve brought to our schools this year. It’s been a joy to watch our students grow, explore, and shine.

Summer may be just beginning, but we’re already preparing for the year ahead. Each summer, we deep clean our buildings to prepare for another year of learning, hire great educators and staff, and ensure everything from classes to curriculum is in place to welcome students back in August.

To our 8th graders and their families: We are so proud of you. You’re ready for what’s next, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.

Lastly, please sign up for our summer book club featuring the NYT Best Seller, The Gift of Failure. Our discussion will challenge us as parents and educators to give our children the gift of failure and develop grit and resilience by facilitating opportunities for them to rise to new challenges.

Wishing all of our families a summer filled with fun, rest, and connection.

Every Student, Every Day,
Dr. Lisa Leali
Superintendent, Lake Bluff 65

Modern parenting often involves overprotection, with parents managing schoolwork, friendships, and activities, which can hinder kids from learning responsibility and embracing failure. At least that’s what author Jessica Lahey claims in her NYT Best Seller, The Gift of Failure, where Lahey offers insights on fostering independence and resilience.

What to Expect

  • Weekly conversation prompts emailed by Dr. Leali to spark reflection and discussion.

  • Read at your own pace throughout the summer—no pressure, just perspective.

In-Depth at Lake Bluff

Sunrise Rocks Brings Community Together, Raises Money for Students

On Saturday, May 24, the Lake Bluff community gathered again for one of its favorite spring traditions at Sunrise Rocks. Held at Sunrise Park, this high-energy outdoor concert was crowded by 4 p.m. and packed full by 6 p.m. with neighbors, students, families, and local supporters enjoying an evening of music, food, fun, and giving back.

A colorful "Sunrise Rocks 2025" banner tops a collage of three photos from the event. The largest photo shows a nighttime concert on a house porch, captioned “This year’s unforgettable Sunrise Rocks event raised $13,000 to support Lake Bluff students.” Two smaller daytime photos show musicians performing under a gazebo and families walking in a park, with a “Thank You!” note.

Sunrise Rocks is more than just a great night out; it’s a fundraiser with heart. Organized by the Lake Bluff Alliance for Excellence and the Zachary Porter Foundation, the event raised over $13,000, including $3,500 from generous sponsors, for Bluffers in Need, a fund that supports Lake Bluff students and families facing financial hardship.

“Thank you to our sponsors and everyone who came out for Sunrise Rocks. It’s truly one of my favorite days of the year. Seeing families and neighbors gathered, enjoying the moment, and giving back is what makes Lake Bluff so special.”
— Michael Breakstone, Executive Director, Alliance for Excellence

Generous local businesses and community members stepped up to sponsor this year’s event, and sponsors were spotlighted on social media leading up to the big night. Their support helped cover event costs, ensuring that every dollar raised could go directly to those who need it most.

While Sunrise Rocks is an unforgettable evening every year, Bluffers in Need serves families year-round. For those who would like to contribute, donations can be made online.
